- Try a number of cases to verdict or judgment
- Handle at least 40 contested legal matters
- Demonstrate exemplary professional conduct and legal ethics
- Practice at least 30% in the field in which he or she is seeking certification
- Demonstrate exceptional written advocacy skills
- Participate in continuing legal education
- Receive recommendations from judges and fellow attorneys
- Successfully complete the NBTA examination
